Workshop Leader Bio:

Sophie Garner – Vocal Coach

Sophie Garner was the first artist to play the main stage at London’s O2 Arena.

She’s been a vocal coach for ITVs The Voice Kids and in 2023 she directed the UKs

first Widows Choir. She currently directs 4 community choirs across 3 counties. Her

career spans 35 years working with the human voice as an instrument. She has an

MA degree in Voice Pedagogy and carried out extensive research in singing for

health and wellness. She designed a specialist programme for the ABI unit she

worked in at the time which she has gone on to implement successfully further afield.

She has extensive experience in working with brain injury and also with children and

teenagers having taught 4,000+ in the past 20 years. Sophie is an ambassador for

Headway and provides weekly music sessions for Bedford as well as providing

training for Headway branches across the UK.

Earlier this year she published her third book ‘Reawakening the Creative Playmaker’

along with her six week creative course of the same title. Her two previous books, for

children, ‘The Creative songwriting Journal’ and ‘If You Can’t Say it Sing it!’ have

circulated into schools across the UK, Australia, Canada and the US. She has also

developed and run countless workshops in her expert area in schools, colleges,

corporate and online.

She is a dedicated speaker on the benefits of singing and creativity for mental health

and wellness. In December 2023 Sophie set up her CIC Take a Deep Breath and

applied to the National Lottery Grant Fund to support her dream project; a weekly

music support group for brain injury survivors and their careers In June this year she

was awarded 20,000 and it launched in the autumn. As a neurodivergent woman

who has struggled with misdiagnosis after misdiagnosis the past ten years, Sophie

is proud to share, that music has been the constant throughout her life and is the

main reason she is alive today. It is her deep connection to singing, music and

songwriting and the power of these collectively to create change that drives her to

get up each day to work.
