Do I have to be musical to take part in music therapy?
No. We work our client’s natural musical abilities and believe that everyone is musical with an innate response to music.
How much do sessions cost?
Sessions start at £50 but cost depends on location. We can put together a proposal for your organisation (link to services page) and provide therapy on a sessional, half day or day basis. Get in touch for more information.
Are your music therapists qualified?
Yes all our music therapists have a Masters Degree in Music Therapy and have full enhanced DBS checks. They are also all registered with the British Association of Music Therapy and Health Care Professions Council.
What does music therapy involve?
Music therapy involves live musical interaction between a highly trained music therapist and a client. Sessions may involve activities such as singing, playing instruments together (improvising), song writing, turn-taking activities and games, relaxation techniques and use of technology such as iPads. Music therapy is unique in that sessions run in a client-led way.
What are the aims of music therapy?
All sessions are tailored towards the individual so aims are decided upon following the initial referral, consultation with other health professionals, carers and a detailed assessment period. Some of the aims may include:
- Developing communication skills – use of voice, choice making etc.
- Emotional expression – providing an outlet for expressing emotions
- Social interaction
- Developing self-confidence
- Motor control
How long do sessions last?
The length of session depends on the client’s age. A younger child may not be able to concentrate for a long time hence a shorter session. Average session length is 30 minutes, but may last up to a maximum of one hour.
Who do we work with?
We work with anyone and everyone. To find out more about the types of music therapy we provide click here
